Noelle enjoys the little experiments – She wanted to try her hands on making bath bombs.

Race and religion
We have never expose Noelle to any race and religion until she goes to school – which she learns from teachers and observation. (Kids don’t see colours!) We don’t want her/them to develop stereotypes.
Last year, she did learn about different races with the different kinds of festivals introduced in school. But since her preschool comprised of all Chinese (though two teachers are Indians), she didn’t really give it a big thought about it.
This year, she learns more. With Moral class, she gets the idea of segregation between Muslim and non-Muslim. So, I have been going with her pace of understanding – to determine her friends because some names can be interracial (e.g Norrah also can sound like Muslim to some🤭). I will ask if the friend is Muslim or non Muslim.
During fasting month, she came home telling me that her Muslim friends are ‘fasting’ (I was indeed surprise that she told me ‘fasting’ when I was using the word ‘puasa’ with her). She did ask why her Muslim friends fast. And I explained that it is their BELIEFS and this has to be respected. Though she didn’t come home telling me that she has any issues with eating or drinking in front of her friends, I did remind her to stay away when she eats or drinks.
Eventually, she identifies herself as ‘I am Chinese.’ 😆😆
Last week, she speaks to me –
Noelle: Mum, Chrystianna is a Christian!
Noelle: She is not a Chinese. I am a Chinese.
Me: 🙄🙄🙄🙄 (😶😶opps, now she is confused between race and religion)
(Actually I know that her friend Chrystianna is a Chindian)
Me: You are Buddhist because papa put you as Buddhist! 🙄🙄🙄 (I don’t know how to explain why she is Buddhist, but that is the fact laaaa) But, I am a Christian! (Actually hubby and I are more like free thinkers)
Me: Buddhists pray in a temple while Christians pray in Church.
Me: You remembered we took cable car in Hong Kong and we were at the place where the big Buddha was? That is where Buddhist pray. 🤔🤔🤔 You remembered once we went to mama’s friend wedding in church? There’s where Christians pray.
– conversation ends –
Noelle: Mum, today when teacher was telling story, suddenly Jazeim’s tooth came out.
Me: How you know?
Noelle: He raise up hand and tell teacher.
Me: 😂😂😂 (that was ticklish)
Then I was curious to know for some time, Jazeim’s race.
Me: 🤔🤔Jazeim, is Muslim or non Muslim? 🙄🙄
Noelle: He is Indian!
Me: 😮😮😮 (I was indeed surprised, now ‘Indian’ came into her dictionary)
Noelle: Indian is brown skin.
Me: 😮😮 How about you? What colour are you?
Noelle: Peach 🙄🙄
Me: But you tanned already, so what colour now? 🙄🙄 (just trying to tease her😜)
Noelle: 🙄🙄🙄I think orange!
My girl is really growing; we can have deeper thoughts conversation now. 😁😁
